5 Spring Tips to Help You do Your Thing!
I don’t know about you, but I am READY to put the winter aside and transition into spring! I see all the signs…daffodils popping up through the soggy ground, birds chirping and the occasional spot of blue sky. I thought a good way to get the jump on the upcoming season would be to give you some spring tips on how to “spring up” your look.
Spring Tip #1: Put Away All of Your Black Clothing
Well, maybe not ALL your black clothing. Anyone who knows me, knows that black is my favorite color in the whole world to wear. But even I get tired of black. Right now, I am really attracted to soft pastels and neutrals. So think about a new color palette for yourself and work it into your wardrobe. Even consider your neutrals not being black, but perhaps navy, khaki or tan. The Pantone colors for 2017 have lovely names such as peach echo, snorkel blue, buttercup and green flash. Try mixing a bright color in with your neutrals…maybe a top, scarf or even a handbag to let the world know you’re ready for the new season!
Spring Tip #2: Freshen Your Hairstyle
Your hair has experienced a beatdown this winter! Cold temperatures, artificial heat and a lack of humidity can leave your locks limp, lifeless, dull and full of static. I say, get a fresh new hairstyle! Layer it, lighten it, shine it up, shorten it or add bangs can all be very effective ways to update your look! If you are not into change, a deeply penetrating salon conditioning treatment can put some bounce back into your hair and allow your color really shine!
Spring Tip #3: Add a Dash of Color to Your Makeup
You can accomplish this very easily with just one or two swipes of a makeup brush. Do the color on just one facial feature…either lips or eyes. A rule of thumb is to always keep the other neutral…that is, if you do a wash of color on your eye lid, then pair it with a nude lip. If your choose to do a brighter lip color, use neutral tones on the eye. Some great eye shadow colors (think Easter colors) would be lilac, aqua or soft pink. Some other 2017 Pantone colors are serenity (a soft periwinkle), fiesta (spicy tomato red) or rose quartz (a shimmery pink). Let those colors be your guide because you will be seeing these colors in clothing, shoes and accessories.
Spring Tip #4: Layer Your Clothes and Put Away Your Coat
It’s finally getting a little warmer out, so your can store your wool coat until next year. In the meantime, layer your clothes. That is, wear a top, maybe a sweater over it and a blazer, long sweater or light trench coat. Add a scarf too for additional warmth (and to protect your hair in case of a spring shower). You are prepared for any temperature when you can add or remove layers. Also, you always look chic and like you put a lot of thought into your outfit.
Spring Tip #5: Break Out the Bronzer
We can tend to look a little sallow and pasty this time of year so warm up your complexion with some bronzer. We use Jane Iredale Cosmetics and their philosophy is not to necessarily use orangey or coppery bronzers. Just use a powder, either pressed or loose, that is a few shades darker than your normal skin tone. It doesn’t look overdone or like Malibu Barbie, just a little more colorful…as if you had been on vacation. Using a big powder brush, draw a large “C” from your forehead, around your eye to your cheekbone. You can also apply a light dusting from the middle of your forehead, down your nose and onto your chin…right where the sun would hit your face. At Estilo, we can color match your complexion with both a mineral foundation that compliments your natural color and then recommend one that would be a good color to bronze with.
We can pretend spring is here even though it’s probably a few weeks away. I always like the transition between seasons and I think we are all ready for a change. Hopefully you will take a few of my spring tips to elevate your look and inspire others to do the same!
No matter how long the winter, spring is sure to follow.
